PART 1Digital Presence

What the business actually owns

Twenty-one separate systems make up this business online. Some are places customers find and book. Some run invisibly. Several were not documented anywhere before this audit.

The domain expires September 23, 2026

Renewal has to happen through GoDaddy before that date. If it lapses, rainbowwatersports.com goes offline and enters a redemption period where a third party can buy it. Eighteen years of search presence, press backlinks, and every customer-facing booking path sit on this one renewal.

Two live servers, and it is unclear who controls one of them

A Hostinger link was provided showing what looked like the live site. WHOIS says otherwise: the nameservers point to Nexcess. That means two active servers, two hosting bills, and one unanswered question — if the Nexcess account is still under the previous owner’s credentials or billing, ownership of the live website has not actually transferred.

Infrastructure

6

rainbowwatersports.com

Watch

The website itself — WordPress running the Beaver Builder page-builder plugin. Domain (GoDaddy) and hosting (Nexcess) are separate systems joined by DNS nameservers.

Live on Nexcess — this is what customers see today

Full rebuild on staging, swapped in at launch by repointing GoDaddy nameservers.

GoDaddy

Failing

Domain registrar. Controls the address, not the files.

Active — domain expires September 23, 2026

Renew now. At launch this is where nameservers switch from Nexcess to the new host.

Nexcess

Watch

The web host actually serving the live site — confirmed via WHOIS as where the nameservers point.

Active — the real live host, not Hostinger

Role ends at launch. Ownership still needs confirming regardless.

Hostinger

Failing

A second active hosting account holding another copy of the site. Origin and ownership unclear.

Active but unattributed — whose account is this?

No action until ownership and purpose are resolved.

WordPress

Watch

The CMS assembling every page a visitor sees.

Active, running the live site

Read-only during content migration. Decommissioned at launch, never modified.

Beaver Builder

Failing

Drag-and-drop page builder plugged into WordPress. A direct cause of the failing mobile scores.

Active — contributing render-blocking CSS/JS on every page

Removed entirely. The rebuild uses no page builder.

Google systems

5

Google Business Profile

Watch

The map pin and info panel in Google Search and Maps. Often the first thing a customer sees, before the website.

Active — access not yet confirmed

Verify URL, category, hours, photos. Also the prerequisite for free Google Things to Do booking.

Google Search Console

Watch

Reports which pages Google has indexed, which queries bring traffic, and any indexing errors or penalties.

Property likely exists — access not confirmed

Obtain access, export full baseline before launch, submit new sitemap, monitor 30+ days.

Google Analytics 4

Good

Records every visit — source, device, pages, time on page. Property ID G-6WXE90X597.

Active — Property ID confirmed on the live site

Migrate under the same Property ID so historical data is not split. Verify via DebugView.

Google Tag Manager

Watch

Single container managing every third-party script without touching site code.

Active — full container contents never audited

Audit the container before launch, migrate, confirm every tag fires.

Email (Google Workspace)

Good

info@rainbowwatersports.com, confirmed via public DNS records.

Active

Confirm Super Admin. Check DKIM before DNS migration — a bad cutover breaks business email.

Booking channels

5

FareHarbor

Failing

Booking engine handling availability, payment and confirmation on its own servers. Shortname: rainbowwatersportsadventure.

Active — but loading 4× per page on the current site

Get correct embed per service, implement once. Also has ChatGPT + Google Things to Do channels.

TripAdvisor

Good

460 reviews and direct booking. Ranks so well in Google that it competes with the business’s own site for its own name.

Active — 460 reviews

Verify URL and that only active services are listed. Otherwise out of scope.

Viator

Good

Tours platform owned by TripAdvisor, sharing inventory with it.

Active — 3 services confirmed live

Verify URL and service accuracy. Otherwise out of scope.

Airbnb Experiences

Good

Reaches Airbnb’s existing-guest audience, independent of Google or TripAdvisor discovery.

Active — 4.96★ (370 reviews) and 4.96★ (117 reviews)

Verify URL and service accuracy. Otherwise out of scope.

Adventure Tours Hawaii

Failing

Reseller with a full vendor page selling four services. Booking buttons are real FareHarbor embeds tagged asn=adventuretourshi — a live affiliate relationship, not a scraped listing.

Active and selling — found July 18, 2026, previously undocumented

Confirm the relationship is known. Two of its four prices undercut the business’s own website.

Review platforms

1

Yelp

Good

Local review and discovery platform, influential independently of Google.

Active — 328 five-star reviews on file (now reads 331)

Verify URL and service accuracy. Otherwise out of scope.

Instagram

Good

Confirmed active. Also the intended source for per-service photo curation.

Active — posting as recently as July 2026

Add to the new site’s social button set.

TikTok

Good

Found via a watermark on a cross-posted Instagram video, then verified directly.

Active — most recent video posted one week before verification

YouTube

Unknown

@StandUpPaddleLessons — a channel the client was unaware of.

Exists — likely a forgotten prior-ownership asset

Low priority. Excluded from the social set unless the client wants to reclaim it.

Ownership verification — required before anything else

Design and development work has no meaning until these are confirmed. Full detail per system lives in 02-Ownership-Verification.md.

PART 2Trust & Authority

Eighteen years of earned credibility

Whether Google treats this site as a trustworthy source. None of this is about whether the content answers a search well — it is entirely about whether the source is believed. This is also the hardest thing to rebuild if it is lost.

Authority of the sites linking in

Grey bars are links that exist but pass no ranking value — dead platforms or nofollow.

Press coverage — all five confirmed, with real URLs

The current site name-drops these outlets without linking to them. Every article was tracked down and confirmed live. The new site links each one directly, turning a claim into something a visitor can click and verify.

LivestrongGive It A Try: Stand Up Paddling (~2011)Mention only, no link

Only Washington Post and Smithsonian pass ranking authority. USA Today and Medium are nofollow. Livestrong quotes a current instructor by name but never linked to the site — which is why it was invisible to every backlink check, and why absence of a backlink is not the same as absence of a mention.

Who captures the same search traffic

TripAdvisor is the biggest competitor in search — and it is listing this business. The two real businesses below it have similar or lower authority.

True competitors — the businesses genuinely fighting for the same searches

A different Moz tool from the visibility chart above, and a different metric. Rivalry measures how directly a domain competes for the same search real estate, not how large it is. Twenty-five candidates were checked individually; these eight are confirmed real, active Oahu operators.

DomainDARivalryWhy it matters
blueplanetadventure.com851Primary concern — same street, same river, direct service overlap
nocturnaladventureshawaii.com1053Night glow SUP on the same river — direct Twilight GLOW competitor

Blue Planet Adventure Co. is the real competitor

Not the equipment retailer already on file — its sister rental and tour company, operating on the same street (62-620F Kamehameha Hwy) and running SUP and kayak tours on the same Anahulu River. Lower domain authority (8 vs 25) but a rivalry score of 51, meaning it is punching well above its weight for the same searches. Now tracked as a standing success metric.
PART 3Relevance

Ranking for 97 terms — and buried on 76 of them

Whether pages actually match what people search for. This is where the single largest opportunity in the entire project sits, and it is not a content problem.

Where all 97 ranking keywords actually sit

Green bars are page one. Everything else is page two or deeper, where almost nobody clicks.

Twelve keywords sit on page one. Seventy-six sit on pages two through five, where under 1% of clicks happen. This distribution is the fingerprint of a site with legitimate content and real authority being held down by technical performance. Google already considers the content relevant enough to rank — it just will not put a site this slow on page one.

“kayak rental oahu” is a real, open gap

127 searches a month, low difficulty, and a minimum domain authority of 8 — which this site clears three times over at DA 25. Yet it does not appear in the top ten at all. A currently-offered service with no content built around its highest-volume search term. Directly actionable.

One keyword is sitting exactly on the edge

“stand up paddle board lessons oahu” needs a minimum DA of 25 to rank top ten. This site is at exactly 25. Not comfortably above the threshold — on it. Any lost backlinks could knock it out; any authority gained pays off immediately.

PART 4Technical Performance

The thing actually holding rankings down

Google made page performance an official ranking factor in 2021, and uses the mobile version of a site to rank it everywhere — including desktop searches. This is the mechanism suppressing those 76 keywords.

Current scores against rebuild targets

Mobile is the one that matters most — Google uses it to rank every search, desktop included.

Red bars are broken, duplicated, or serving no working purpose. Roughly 2.5MB of this is pure waste.

Code downloaded but never used

Every visitor downloads all of this. The dark portion is the part that actually does something.

Files blocking the page from rendering

Each of these must download completely before a visitor sees anything at all. None exist in the new codebase — no jQuery, no Bootstrap, no Font Awesome, no page builder.

All 152 pages share one identical H1

Every page carries the same H1 — the header bar phone-number text. Google cannot tell the SUP page from the kayak page from the homepage. Meanwhile the most visually prominent headline on the homepage is coded as an H4, making it nearly invisible as a ranking signal.
PART 5Broken Things

Sixteen confirmed failures

Everything below was found through crawl data, PageSpeed audits, or by opening the page directly. Each one is real, each one has a fix in the rebuild.

IssueWhat is actually wrongFix in the rebuild
Broken booking linksTwo reservation pages return 404: /reservations.html (confirmed via Moz to carry real link equity — PA 20, 1 linking domain) and /reservations/. A visitor clicking either reaches a dead page instead of a booking path — direct lost bookings. Separately, a full FareHarbor URL was typed as a relative path, producing rainbowwatersports.com/fareharbor.com/rainbowwatersportsadventure/ — a visitor clicking that specific Book Now button reaches a 404, not FareHarbor. No standalone reservations page is needed — FareHarbor handles booking directly via embedded buttons. /reservations.html 301s to /pricing specifically to preserve its PA 20 equity rather than losing it. The broken relative-path link traces to paddleboard-sup-yoga.html — since SUP Yoga is discontinued and set to 410 Gone, that link disappears with the page; no separate fix required.
Every page shares one H1All 152 pages carry the identical H1 — the header bar phone-number text. Google cannot tell the SUP page from the kayak page. The real homepage headline is coded as an H4, making it nearly invisible as a ranking signal.Every page gets a unique, keyword-targeted H1 with a correct heading hierarchy beneath it.
Structured data present, but nothing commercialEvery real page carries JSON-LD and microdata (Organization, WebSite, BreadcrumbList, Article, BlogPosting) — the generic WordPress/AIOSEO blog stack. But no type on the site declares it a local business that sells anything: LocalBusiness, FAQPage, TouristTrip, TouristAttraction, and Offer/AggregateOffer are all absent. That is why there are zero rich results despite schema technically existing.Existing markup is diffed and carried forward (not overwritten), and six missing commercial types are added as validated JSON-LD, tested with Google’s Rich Results Test before launch.
Logo served from a staging serverConfirmed via Screaming Frog finding a 301 redirect from 6c71872594.nxcli.io on every page crawl — 152 inlinks, one per page. If that Nexcess staging environment is ever decommissioned, every page on the site simultaneously loses its logo.Logo hosted locally on the production server.
Two broken video systems running at onceAn empty HTML5 video element with no working src, plus a YouTube embed (MxTe2G_1CPY) loading 969KB on desktop across 11 requests — for a video that never actually plays. Both removed. A single self-hosted WebM file of roughly 200KB replaces them — and it works.
Broken gallery, 55 photos invisibleThe gallery page contains 55 distinct photos of real customers on the water, turtles in the Anahulu River, and the North Shore experience. Due to the current WordPress/Beaver Builder implementation, the gallery is non-functional — photos are either not loading or not accessible to visitors. (This figure previously read 184 in error — that was the sitewide JPEG count from the Screaming Frog image export, mistakenly applied to the gallery specifically. A direct parse of pricing-and-info/photos.html found 112 image URLs collapsing to 55 distinct source photos, each appearing twice — once full-size, once as a WordPress thumbnail variant.)A fully functional gallery, properly optimized images, plus per-service curated sets.
Testimonials page takes 30+ secondsThe testimonials page takes over 30 seconds to load, caused by the method used to embed reviews — likely loading large numbers of external review widgets simultaneously. A page meant to build trust instead delivers one of the worst user experiences on the site.A curated reviews section with a limited number of efficiently loaded testimonials, plus external review-platform links for visitors who want to read more.
FareHarbor loading four times per pageTwo instances with an autolightframe parameter and two without — roughly 1.5MB per page for the booking widget alone, on every single page load regardless of whether the visitor ever books.Implemented once per page with the correct embed obtained directly from FareHarbor.
bettermetrics.co — unknown trackerAn analytics/marketing tracker of unknown origin is installed on every page and times out on every load, adding a failed network request to every visit. The client appears unaware of it. Its purpose is unknown.Removed entirely.
SwellCX chat widget — brokenA live chat widget throws "Cannot read properties of undefined (reading 'welcome_delay')" on every page load — non-functional yet still consuming 71KB per page.Evaluated with client. Removed if not needed; replaced with a working alternative if live chat is wanted.
Unexplained Google/DoubleClick ad trackerA Google advertising tracker loads on every page. The client hasn’t indicated running Google Ads campaigns; the source is either a misconfigured GTM tag or something injected by FareHarbor.Identified during the GTM audit and removed if unintentional.
Discontinued services still in navigationThe current navigation includes links to services no longer offered — whale watching, dolphin tours, SUP yoga, surfboard rental, coastal eco-adventure. This confuses visitors and misrepresents the business to both customers and Google.Navigation reflects only the confirmed active service set.
No pricing pageThere’s no single page where a visitor can see all services and prices at once — pricing is spread across nested pages under /pricing-and-info/. A tourist comparing options wants prices immediately; making them navigate a submenu is friction between them and a booking.A dedicated pricing page presenting the working service set with clear pricing, what’s included, and a booking button for each.
Deleted page still linked/pricing-and-info/lesson-descriptions.html returns a 404 but is still linked from two live gallery pages — pricing-and-info/photos.html and photos.html. Visitors clicking it reach a dead page. Both gallery pages survive the rebuild as /gallery, so the link is corrected outright rather than left to a redirect.
Test page and duplicate homepage in the sitemapA page at /test-page.html exists on the live site, is included in the sitemap, and is therefore being submitted to Google for indexing — residual from development with no business purpose. Separately, /home.html is a duplicate of the homepage and also appears in the sitemap — two URLs for the same content confuses Google about which one is canonical.Neither exists in the production build or sitemap. One canonical homepage URL.
Facebook link uses a deprecated URLThe site links facebook.com/pages/Rainbow-Watersports-Adventures-Stand-Up-Paddle-Lessons/263081183887 — a format Facebook deprecated. The current, active page is facebook.com/100063517602771 (~915 likes, 17 check-ins, active posting as recently as June 2026).Facebook link updated to facebook.com/100063517602771.
Nudgify — unexplained, not confirmed brokenConfirmed live directly (pixel.nudgify.com/pixel.js), 20 July 2026 — a social-proof popup service ("3 people booked this recently"-style notifications). Distinct from bettermetrics.co and SwellCX above: this one isn’t confirmed broken, it’s confirmed present and unexplained. Client awareness/intent unconfirmed — extra script weight on every page, unclear if it’s even wanted.Fate depends on client confirmation (see 04-Client-Questionnaire.md) — kept, dropped, or replaced with an equivalent, once it’s known whether this is a deliberate marketing choice or an unrecognized leftover.

PART 7Service Alignment

The same service, five different prices

Every confirmed service cross-referenced against every platform this business sells on, with a source link behind every price in the underlying document.

On two services, the business’s own website is the most expensive place to book

A reseller found on July 18 — Adventure Tours Hawaii — sells the Private SUP Lesson at $99 against $119 on the business’s own site, and the Twilight GLOW Paddle at $129 against $149. Its booking buttons are real FareHarbor embeds carrying an affiliate tag, so these are attributed bookings, not scraped listings. A commission-taking middleman is currently cheaper than booking direct — the opposite of the intended margin structure, and it undercuts the entire “book direct” argument the new site is built to make.
